UFC Resolution Results- Edgar/Maynard

UFC Resolution Results:

Wow, that’s all I can say. The PPV card was good but it wouldn’t have mattered if I had to watch James Toney and Seth Petruzelli fight considering the drama in the main event. I feel a little robbed in my fight picks. Going .500 is not a great start but at least I am not going home with two shiners and feeling like the judges screwed me.

Here are the results:

Edgar vs Maynard:

Frankie is my new hero, period. I thought Brookins took a bad beating when he won TUF. This was a whole new level of ass-whipping. Huge shot after huge shot landed, 97 in total by Maynard in the first round, and Edgar was sent jello-legging all over the ring. It was borderline dangerous that the ref didn’t stop it (but glad he didn’t). Frankie survives the round but everyone is sure he will be finished in the second. Frankie comes out with pretty crisp punching and a monsterous slam that sends the crowd into a frenzy. He picks up more speed in the third and looks fully recovered. He peppers a gassed out Maynard with punches and takedowns for every round left in the fight. I think Maynard’s spirit was broken when he couldn’t finish Edgar in the first.

The fight ended in a draw but I had Maynard taking a 10-8 in the first and then losing every round after. It should have been 48-46 Edgar. Maynard is whining, but he got lucky he received a draw.

Leben vs Stann

I guess you can only go to the well so many times in a row. Leben led with his chin, like he always does, but this time he didn’t have a hail mary left to save him. Stann looks much improved after his training stint with Jackson. His punches were way crisper and much faster. His emotional fight dedication to a fallen comrade had him firing on all cylinders. Stann rocked Leben with a couple rights and finished it with a vicious knee. K.O. for Stann.

Vera vs Silva

Vera broke my heart again but at least I didn’t pick him this time. Vera, please retire. You don’t have the fire you used to have. Watching Silva bitch slap you 20 times in a row (yup-open hand and all) and then play the bongo drums on your back is about as much as I can handle. You have flashes of glory but they are never sustained. Go do commercials, people dig you.

Silva by decision.

Diaz vs Kim

I completely underestimated Kim’s ability on the ground. Kim and Diaz spent the majority of the fight grappling which, where one would think, Diaz has the major advantage. He didn’t. Diaz tried sub after sub and couldn’t catch the very large Kim. Kim even smack talked a little with the Stockton thug. At the end of the day, Kim won by decision. Diaz needs to realize something; he is the clear winner of round three in EVERY fight. If he started fighting round one like round three he would smash everybody. He is rarely in trouble but he just takes WAY too long to get going.

Kim by decision

Guida vs Gomi

Guida takes a page out of Edgar’s book by bobbing and weaving like dead-head on “E” and it seems to have worked. Gomi never got his timing down and Guida even landed a couple surprising head kicks. Eventually Guida secures a “Joe-Daddy” guillotine choke and taps the Fireball Kid. Guida’s time at Jackson’s camp seems to be working wonders. Renewed confidence and a game plan. What a concept.

Guida by submission.

Frankie gained my respect last night – he should have gotten the decision. Anyone that can survive that 1st round onslaught and stick to and execute his game plan is impressive.
I agree with you on Greg Jackson’s camp, definitely one of the best – both Stann and Guida have made great strides last night.
    Vera, well…….

With Cain Velasquez being out with an injury for the next 6 months and not being able to fight Junior Dos Santos, which fight should happen first:

Junior Dos Santos vs Brock Lesnar
    or
Junior Dos Santos vs Frank Mir

    How would win?

  6. Aaron Parkinson Says:

Hmmmmmm I like neither to be honest but I guess someone has to fight. Brock was just recently outclassed so maybe throw Mir in although I don’t anyone wants to see him fight Lesnar or Cain if he wins.
